who’s who: Jessamy Jane – snr acman a.k.a JJD

We’d love to get to know you, but don’t worry we’ll break the ice first! Read through so you can get to know us a little better, that is of course when we aren’t head first in creating, brainstorming, emailing and all-round solving.

Enjoy and feel free to share a bit about yourself!

What have you been working on recently?

I’ve been getting stuck into a really fun and creative brief from Nespresso which involves refreshing the 2017-dimensional mail campaign for Nespresso Business Solutions. It’s more of a hands-on type project where I get to roll up my sleeves and work closely with the studio to come up with some cool and fresh ideas. It’s a nice change from working on the digital side of things!

What’s something you’ve learnt in your role?

Working at DesignStreet for 2 years now, I’ve learnt that copy is key, and it takes time to get it right. Words are a powerful thing and can really make or break campaigns. Sometimes our copy team nails creative copy within minutes and sometimes it takes weeks – it’s all a part of the creative process and that’s okay. We always get there in the end.

What’s got you glued to the screen at the moment?

My all-time favourite tv series has to be Summer Heights High – can you tell from my pic? Mr G is a dead set legend – his theatrical dance scenes in his drama class have me in absolute stitches every time I watch it. Even the kids in his class can’t hold a straight face. When he starts acting out as a cat and ‘Meowwwwwing’; it’s pure gold. If I were you I’d cancel your Saturday night plans and hook straight in to Mr G.

How would you describe your style?

I think if you saw me on a Friday in the office, you’d think I was born in the 70’s rocking the lilac flare cord pants for Flare pant Friday. Yep! it’s a rule in the DS office; on Friday we wear flares! I’m still waiting for Big G (our Managing Director) to rock up in his floral flares from when he was an 18-year old hippie. Wouldn’t that be a sight!

Visited any new spots lately? Recommendations?

The Tiny Giant is an absolute must. It’s a little cafe in Petersham which has become an Instagram sensation with some of the most crazy, colourful and giant breakfast meals that you’ll ever see. Think rainbow coloured brioche, fairy floss, all sorts of candy and unicorn waffle horns. Make sure you head in early, we had to wait for 40 minutes for a seat, but it was well worth the wait. We also built up our hunger watching a couple take at least 10 insta shots before digging in. Don’t worry – they got the perfect shot in the end.

We’ve all got guilty pleasures – what’s yours?

At the moment, I’m obsessed with the @empoweredbirthproject. Just a content warning – it’s pretty extreme and gory, but it’s a beautiful space that empowers women and visually tells the breathtaking story of birth all around the world. View at your own risk!

Go on – give yourself a pat on the back and tell us something you’ve achieved this month?

I’ll give myself a full-on round of applause for taking part and completing the city to surf this year. I did walk the whole way, but for someone who doesn’t exercise ever, it’s pretty bloody good if you ask me. I was hobbling around the office for a week after, but it was worth the beer that was waiting for me when I crossed the line.

What’s the best word of advice you have been given?

A wise woman once told me, if a man isn’t knocking down the door to see you, he ain’t interested honey!
